The Basque Country
The Attraction of Uniqueness
The cultural identity that is especially known for its unique »Euskara« language as well as the regions
spirit for festivals, results from the story of an age old civilization whose origins lie yet in the dark.
Even today one can hear the sound of the traditional flute instruments »txistu« and »gaita« that accompany
the traditional and very popular Basque dances in the villages. The uniqueness of the Basque country is also
clearly pronounced through its architecture, its cuisine, and different types of sport. The ball game »Pelote
Basque« is a typical Basquean sport with its playing fields prominently located in all villages. Another Basque
country sporting tradition is the special power sport named »Force Basque« whose events can be traced back to
practices stemming from both country life and agriculture.
Lush nature, diverse landscape and thoughtfully protected natural environment all combine to
form a true Basquean national heritage.
